About
Chabad House offers scores of projects across the country whose aims are primarily education, assistance and comfort of the Jewish and more recently, non-sectarian communities throughout S.A.

The elderly, children’s education, marriage counseling, books for the invalid and hospital visitations are a mere spectrum of our daily activities. With a team of dedicated workers, Chabad House is more than an activity centre; it is an institution that is absolutely indispensible on the South African Jewish communal scene.

Some of the programmes that have been developed in more recent times include: Grow Your Life, a non-sectarian programme aimed at educating the disadvantaged youth in South Africa about the importance of entrepreneurial skills; CARE – Chabad’s Addiction Rehabilitation Centre - aimed at restoring the lives of those who have unfortunately succumbed to the devastating realm of addiction; and One Time Shoe Shine – an entrepreneurial programme that was borne as a result of Grow Your Life.

While our running costs are kept to an absolute minimum, they unfortunately remain extremely high. Teachers for the elderly, adults and children, printing of educational literature, children’s incentives, books, transport etc., are all costs that only escalate.

Daily Thought
“The water was a wall for them, to their right and to their left.”—Exodus 14:29 Freedom is not to the right. Freedom is not to the left. Neither is it at the center. Any direction you take is just another form of bondage. Only by walking opposite roads at once can you be free. So if you catch yourself fitting into a definition, contradict it. Never say, “I am this.” Always be leaving the slavery of Egypt. Yes, it demands the supernatural. You are a...
